I-85 and I-85 Extension Express Lanes

The I-85 Express Lanes are made up of a 15-mile corridor that runs from Chamblee Tucker Road (just south of I-285) to Old Peachtree Road in Gwinnett County, with several entrance and exit points. The I-85 Extension Express Lanes, a 10-mile corridor within Gwinnett County, begin north of the existing I-85 Express Lanes at Old Peachtree Road and extend to Hamilton Mill Road.
These High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes are open for use by Peach Pass holders in single- and double-occupant vehicles for a fee. The lanes are also open to drivers with active, valid accounts with E-ZPass, Sun Pass, E-Pass, and Quick Pass. The I-85 and I-85 Extension Express Lanes allow for 3 or more person carpools to receive free toll benefits, when customers have an active Peach Pass Toll Personal or Toll Corporate account and use the Peach Pass Verify mobile app to verify each carpool trip. Prepaid Pay n Go accounts and interoperable toll accounts from other partnering states (E-ZPass, SunPass, QuickPass, etc.) are not eligible for free toll benefits through the Peach Pass Verify mobile app.

Electric and Alternative Fuel Vehicles (EVs/AFVs)* and Motorcycles with the proper AFV/motorcycle license plates ride for free in the I-85 High Occupancy Toll (HOT)  Lanes if they have been certified through Peach Pass and are associated with active Toll Personal or Toll Corporate Accounts. Click here to learn more.

*Effective September 29, 2025, at 11:59 p.m., the federal law that exempts Electric and Alternative Fuel vehicles from toll charges in the
I-85 HOT Lanes will expire. Starting September 30, 2025, all EV/AFV customers will be charged tolls when traveling in the I-85 HOT Lanes.
Vehicles with more than 2 axles or 6 wheels are not allowed in the lanes (except for over-the-road buses). Vehicles with trailers and tractor-trailer trucks are not allowed in the lanes.

The I-85 Extension Express Lane trips are charged separately from I-85 Express Lanes.

Customers who travel through both the I-85 Express Lanes and the I-85 Extension Express Lanes will see two separate charges on their Peach Pass account. One from 85A (I-85 Express Lanes) and one from 85B (I-85 Extension Express Lanes). Because the congestion levels experienced in each facility can vary significantly, each facility is priced individually. Drivers traveling from one facility to the next will see toll rate signs with a yellow banner reading “NEW TOLL RATES” These are the rates to continue into the next facility. If the customer does not want to pay the toll for the second facility, the customer should exit at the next available exit.
This makes it easier for customers who may only want to travel on one or the other. After traveling in the Express Lanes, customers will see two separate charges on their Peach Pass account: 85 A (I-85 Express Lanes) and 85 B (I-85 Express Lanes Extension).
